The shoreline at Cardoness is a series of sandy bays backed by rocks and then woods. Prominent scots pines stand out above other trees lending a dramatic presence to the skyline. At high tide the bays are cut off from each other, but at low tide the water retreats for half a mile or more across the sands.
Carrick shore has long been popular with local artists not least for the assortment of pituresque holiday chalets nestled amongst the scrubby thorn bushes of this rocky shore. Sadly most of the old chalets, unique constructions and full of character, have now gone, replaced with more comfortable modern versions.
Castelnaud is an impressive castle on the Dordogne River in France. Dirleton and Tantallon Castles are two favourite castles in East Lothian, in eastern Scotland.
